Today was a beautiful winters day here in Nova Scotia with a masterpiece of clouds in the evening sky .

Two fishermen found dead on shoreline of northern Nova Scotia town

PARRSBORO, N.S. - Investigators have located the body of a second fishermen who died following an evening ATV expedition to the shoreline of a town in northern Nova Scotia.

Const. Dal Hutchinson with the Cumberland County RCMP said the man was located around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday on the shores of Minas Basin in Parrsboro, N.S.

Earlier Saturday, the body of another man was found by family members in the same area, said Hutchinson.

The fishermen were reported missing after setting out on two ATVs at about 5 p.m. on Friday to check on lobster crates they had stored on the shore of the basin.

By 1 a.m. Saturday, the two had not returned home and family members grew concerned, said Hutchinson.

Search and rescue teams from nearby Springhill and Pugwash, Parrsboro fire officials and a helicopter all pitched in to help locate the second man.

"When the tide finally went out ... we were able to locate both ATVs and the body," said Hutchinson from the scene.

Hutchinson said the names and ages of the victims should be released Sunday, and the bodies will be transported to Halifax for an autopsy.

He could not say how the men died, but noted that the Parrsboro area experiences the highest tides in the world and it was cold and icy Friday evening and overnight.

The tides can rise quickly and by as much as 12 metres, he said.

Hutchinson said fishermen sometimes store lobster in crates in areas just past the shoreline where they can remain alive, and the two men were likely checking up on their catch while the tide was out.

This rock formation is at Caroline Beach along the fundy shore. The tide was out and the rain clouds rolling in so I explored the beach , it was cool to observe how the rocks are formed and how you can walk in and around them .

Just a personal note to let everyone know that I am moving from the harbour soon. My heart is full of sadness that I have to leave a place that I hold so close to my heart. Baxter's Harbour is a great community full of wonderful , caring people . I have to leave due to personal reasons beyond my control. The good news is that I am only moving a couple miles away to Bennett's Bay which is still on the Bay of Fundy shore but I will be visiting Baxter's Harbour often . I have many , many pictures of the harbour in my computer with many news ones to come that I will be posting.The blog is mainly to show the beauty of the Bay of Fundy and the history and nature surrounding it . I enjoy working on the Baxter's Harbour Blog and I will continue to do so . Thanks to everyone who has been there for me during this difficult time. A piece of my heart will always be in the harbour .

Coffee House & Concert Fundraiser, part 2

My son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter came to visit Nova Scotia just in time for the Baxter's Harbour Coffee House and Concert on April 9.

The deserts made for the coffeehouse were very tasty. Sorry, no pictures, they all got eaten too fast!

The musicians gave us a wonderful evening of entertainment.

Mike, Forest and Peter kicked off the show in the old Baxter's Harbour church:

Rosalie Dowling brought down the house with her wonderful voice and passionate delivery. She surely has a great musical career ahead of her!

Mike Milne gave us a sample of his Irish music and the classic provincial anthem, Farewell to Nova Scotia (woops, no photo!).

A surprise guest and former resident of the Harbour brought along his dobro and slide guitar to play for us (with two Peters accompanying):

The Mud Creek Boys closed the show with their great music:

And my granddaughter was enthralled with it all!

Thank you Baxter's Harbour, for showing my visiting family a great time!

Higher than normal tides are expected along the Fundy coast tonight thanks to the "super moon".

The moon will be closer to earth than at any time since 1983 -- a mere 355,000 kilometres.

My daughter and I was down to the harbour today and was surprised to find that most of the ice was gone from the waterfall. You can feel Spring in the Bay breeze and see that the ice is disappearing from the falls and the cliffs for another winter season .

Backyard Birds of Winter in Nova Scotia

It was a very cold day in the harbour when I looked out of the window at my feeder to discover a type of bird I had never seen before. The name of the bird is snow bunting and after researching this bird I believe I was very lucky to have them at my feeder. Click on the link above it will tell you all about this beautiful bird. These are photos that were taken in my field in the early Spring of 2009 . I am posting these pictures because I can not help but think of the deer [our wildlife] with the great amounts of snow we are recieving . The winter of 2008-2009 was a winter with large amounts of snow , but as Spring was breaking is when the deer came out in my field for several weeks. I love to look at these pictures especially the white and brown one. As I am posting this it is snowing again , it has snowed all day !

After the snowstorm yesterday I wanted to get out for a walk , the weather was so calm and the snow against the deep blue sky was breath-taking. The gold finches were in my feeder this morning, the eagles that were soaring so freely were at the beach and I spotted the robin in an apple tree on the way home. What a beautiful winter walk in the harbour !!!!!

There is a fish chowder supper and music concert tonight Sat. Nov.13 ,Price $ 10.00 supper starts at 5:00 pm and the concet at 7:00 . The music will be provided by the Paddy's Pub Session Band , Dennis Robinson & Friends Bruce Clarke and Cukii Moon. What a nice way to spent a Autumn evening good food , good friends, good music. The money raised will be going towards a new roof for the church . See you there !!!!!!

I found this piece of Amethyst on the beach the other day , the tide was in full and it was just lying there above the high tide mark. We have had some large waves so it must have come in on the tide. Just a beautiful beach treasure to find .
